Gathering

Welcome and Prelude

Please rise in body or spirit.

Lighting the Advent Wreath

 L LIGHT THREE CANDLES TO WATCH FOR MESSIAH;
LET THE LIGHT BANISH THE DARKNESS.
LIFT YOUR HEADS AND LIFT HIGH THE GATEWAY,
FOR THE KING OF GLORY. (ELW 240)
P          Blessed are You, God of our salvation; You promised to take away judgment, to cast out fear, and to turn the shame of the outcast into praise. As we light these candles, kindle in us the fire of Your Holy Spirit to make known Your deeds among the nations and to sing for joy when You are in our midst; let Your face shine on us and bless us that we may be saved.
C         AMEN.
Greeting  and Prayer of the Day
P     The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C     AND ALSO WITH YOU.
P     Let us pray.

A brief silence is kept before the prayer.

Spirit of the Lord God, You bring good news to the oppressed, bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, and release the prisoners. You comfort all who mourn, and shower Your people with the oil of gladness instead of mourning; a mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit. We will greatly rejoice in the Lord, our whole being shall exult in God, for the sake of the One who brought righteousness to life, Jesus Christ our salvation.
Gracious God, in every age You have sent men and women who have given their lives in witness to Your love and truth. Inspire us with the memory of Lucy, whose faithfulness led to the way of the cross, and give us courage to bear full witness with our lives to Your Son’s victory over sin and death, for He lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C     AMEN.

Please be seated.

Great Thanksgiving

P          The Lord be with you.
C         AND ALSO WITH YOU.
P          Lift up your hearts.
C         WE LIFT THEM TO THE LORD.
P          Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C         IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE OUR THANKS AND PRAISE
P          Holy God, our Bread of life, our Table, and our Food,
You created a world in which all might be satisfied
                       by Your abundance.
You dined with Abraham and Sarah, promising them life,
and fed Your people Israel with manna from heaven.
You sent Your Son to eat with sinners
and to become food for the world.
In the night in which He was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is My body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of Me.
P          Remembering, therefore, His life given for us and His rising
from the grave, we await His coming again to share with us
                       the everlasting feast.
By Your Spirit nurture and sustain us with this meal:
strengthen us to serve all in hunger and want,
and by this bread make of us the body of Your Son.
Through Him all glory and honor is Yours, Almighty Father,
with the Holy Spirit, in Your holy Church, both now and forever.
C          AMEN.
P          Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:
C          OUR FATHER, WHO ART…
P          God fills the hungry with good things. Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Distribution of Bread
P         The body of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in His grace.
C         AMEN.
A         Let us pray. Holy One, we give You thanks that in this bread we have feasted again on Your endless love. Let that love overflow more and more in our lives, that we may be messengers to prepare Your way, harvesters of justice and righteousness, and bearers of Your eternal Word, our Savior Jesus Christ.
C         AMEN.
