Gathering

Welcome and Prelude

Lighting the Advent Wreath

 LIGHT TWO CANDLES TO WATCH FOR MESSIAH;
LET THE LIGHT BANISH THE DARKNESS.
HE SHALL FEED THE FLOCK LIKE A SHEPHERD,
GENTLY LEAD THEM HOMEWARD. (ELW 240)
P          Blessed are You, God of our salvation; You promised to send Your messenger to prepare the way by building a highway straight and level and by preaching a baptism of repentance. As we light these candles, kindle among us the refiner's fire, purify us of sin, and bring the good work begun in us to completion by the day of Jesus Christ; let Your face shine on us and bless us that we may be saved.
C         AMEN.
Greeting  and Prayer of the Day
P     The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C     AND ALSO WITH YOU.
P     Let us pray.

A brief silence is kept before the prayer.

Loving Lord, when we have strayed, You have called us to come home to You. “Return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing.” With all our hearts we return to You, and gratefully accept Your gentle love, for the sake of the One whose spirit lives in us, Jesus Christ our loving savior.
Grant, Almighty God, that Your church may be so inspired by the example of Your servant Nicholas of Myra, that it may never cease to work for the welfare of children, the safety of sailors, the relief of the poor, and the help of those tossed by tempests of doubt or grief; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C     AMEN.

Please be seated.

Great Thanksgiving

P          The Lord be with you.
C         AND ALSO WITH YOU.
P          Lift up your hearts.
C         WE LIFT THEM TO THE LORD.
P          Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C         IT IS RIGHT TO GIVE OUR THANKS AND PRAISE
P          Holy God, our Bread of life, our Table, and our Food,
You created a world in which all might be satisfied
                       by Your abundance.
You dined with Abraham and Sarah, promising them life,
and fed Your people Israel with manna from heaven.
You sent Your Son to eat with sinners
and to become food for the world.
In the night in which He was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is My body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of Me.
P          Remembering, therefore, His life given for us and His rising
from the grave, we await His coming again to share with us
                       the everlasting feast.
By Your Spirit nurture and sustain us with this meal:
strengthen us to serve all in hunger and want,
and by this bread make of us the body of Your Son.
Through Him all glory and honor is Yours, Almighty Father,
with the Holy Spirit, in Your holy Church, both now and forever.
C          AMEN.
P          Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:
C          OUR FATHER, WHO ART…
P          God fills the hungry with good things. Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Distribution of Bread
P         The body of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in His grace.
C         AMEN.
A         Let us pray. Holy One, we give You thanks that in this bread we have feasted again on Your endless love. Let that love overflow more and more in our lives, that we may be messengers to prepare Your way, harvesters of justice and righteousness, and bearers of Your eternal Word, our Savior Jesus Christ.
C         AMEN.

SENDING

Blessing

P          May God direct Your ways in peace, make You abound in love for one another and for all, and strengthen Your hearts until the coming of our Lord Jesus. Almighty God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever.
C         AMEN.

unto your own and rescue them!
From depths of hell your people save,
and give them victory o'er the grave. REFRAIN
