Thanksgiving for Baptism

P     Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, the fountain of living water, the rock who gave us birth, our light and our salvation.
C     AMEN.
A     A reading from the Psalms: The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the LORD is upon the mighty waters. O LORD, give strength to Your people; give them, O LORD, the blessings of peace. (Psalm 29:3, 11)
P     Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism, we are clothed with God's mercy and forgiveness. Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism.
P     Blessed are You, holy God. You are the creator of the waters of the earth. You are the everlasting wellspring. You gather Your people from sea to sea. You quench our thirst, and You comfort all who weep. Your Son stands among us, Shepherd and Lamb, to lead all the saints through death to life. Pour out Your Holy Spirit. May this water be a sign of the end of all tears; for we stand under the name above every name, Jesus Your Son, who lives with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C     AMEN
P           Holy God, holy and merciful, holy and mighty,
You are the river of life, You are the everlasting wellspring,
You are the fire of rebirth.
Glory  to You for oceans and lakes, for rivers and streams.
The Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Santa Catalina, and the San Diego Bay.
Honor to You for cloud and rain, for dew and snow.
Your waters are below us, around us, above us: our life is born in You.
You are the fountain of resurrection
Praise to You for Your saving waters:
Noah and the animals survive the flood,
                Hagar discovers Your well.
The Israelites escape through the sea, and they drink from Your gushing rock.
                Naaman washes his leprosy away,
and the Samaritan woman will never be thirsty again.
Praise to You for the water of baptism
and for Your Word that saves us in this sacrament.
Breathe Your Spirit into all who are gathered here and into all creation.
Illumine our days. Enliven our bones. Dry our tears.
Wash away the sin within us, and drown the evil around us.
Satisfy all our thirst with Your living water, Jesus Christ, our Savior,
who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C          AMEN
P           Almighty God, who gives us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit and forgives us all our sins, strengthen us in all goodness and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lords.
C          AMEN.
Greeting  and Prayer of the Day
P     The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
P     Let us pray.

A brief silence is kept before the prayer.

God of the seas, sky, and land, when Jonah turned to run from You, You showed him that nothing and no one could hide from Your presence. You are in all things, and You love all things. Show us the gift of Your presence, and help us to carry Your word of compassion and grace to all the world, in the name of the one who carried out Your love flawlessly, Jesus Christ our redeemer.
C     AMEN.

Please be seated.

Great Thanksgiving

P          The Lord be with you.
P          Lift up your hearts.
P          Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
P          You are indeed holy, gracious, and merciful God; everything is filled with Your glory. We give You thanks for Your promise and presence which have sustained the faithful in this and every generation. Above all, we give You thanks for Jesus, born of Mary, who in word and deed announced Your gentle rule of justice, reconciliation, and peace.
In the night in which He was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to His disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is My body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of Me.
P          Send now, we pray, Your Holy Spirit, that all of Your promises may come to us and Your whole creation.
P          This we pray through Jesus Christ, our Savior and our friend.
C         AMEN.
